Things just don't stand still do they? A major part of most manager's roles is to do with moving things ahead and introducing better, more efficient ways of getting things done.
Given the time spent managing change we should really be experts. Yet, we often focus upon one aspect of change - the task. Failing to recognise the impact of change on the people that we’re responsible for.
We plan the project, forecast the numbers, write the procedures, put together checklists, monitor progress, work towards the "go live" date.
And we then end up picking up the people pieces afterwards. Asking ourselves why no-one got as excited about the new "whatever" as we did. Realising that we've left some people behind. Wondering why others got fed up, jumped ship or switched off.
Mmmm, maybe we should have spent as much time planning how to handle the people as the tasks.
